DAY 1: ADDIS ABABA – BAHIR DAR

Early morning drive to Bahir Dar via Debre Markos. On the way visit the Debre Libanos Monastery and the Portuguese Bridge, which was the first bridge in Ethiopia. After lunch in Debre Markos, you will pass through the spectacular Blue Nile Gorge. O/N BAHIR DAR (HOTEL).

DAY 2: BAHIR DAR

In the morning, take a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the island monasteries, such as Kibran Gabriel (which does not allow entry for women.) In the afternoon, drive to the Blue Nile Falls.In the early evening, drive to Bahir Dar. O/N BAHIR DAR (HOTEL).

DAY 3: BAHIR DAR – GONDAR

After breakfast, drive to Gondar. In Gondar, visit the Castles of King Fasilides and the Debre Birhan Silassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia. O/N GONDAR (HOTEL).  

DAY 4: GONDAR – AXUM

In the morning, drive to Axum, enjoying spectacular views of the Simien Mountains. After stopping for lunch in Adarky, proceed driving through the Tekeze Valley to Axum, home of the ancient Axumite Empire, the Queen of Sheba, and the Ark of the Covenant. O/N AXUM (HOTEL).

DAY 5: AXUM

Full day visiting the sites of Axum, including the famous obelisks (one that was just erected after being returned from Italy), the Queen of Sheba’s Bath, King Bazen’s tomb, and the Queen of Sheba’s Palace. You can also visit the St. Mary of Zion church, where the Ark of the Covenant is kept. Men only are allowed to enter the old church. O/N AXUM (HOTEL).

DAY 6: AXUM – MEKELLE

After breakfast, drive to Mekelle en route visit the ruins of Yeha, dating from the 8th to 5th centuries BC, and thought to be the capital of Ethiopian civilization before Axum. Afterwards, visit the Debre Damo monastery, where the men must climb up a 15-m rope to enter. O/N MEKELLE (HOTEL).

DAY 7: MEKELE – LALIBELA

After breakfast drive to Lalibela. O/N LALIBELA (HOTEL).

DAY 8: LALIBELA

Full day visit the 11 rock-hewn churches of the remarkable King Lalibela. O/N LALIBELA (HOTEL).

DAY 9: LALIBELA – KOMBOLCHA

In the morning drive to Kombolicha en route visit Lake Hayik and the monastery dotted there.O/N KOMBOLICHA (HOTEL).

DAY 10: KOMBOLCHA – ADDIS ABABA

In the morning drive to Addis via Tarmaber túnel,Gemesa Bedel view point where you can see low land and high land parts, Great Rift Valley, then proceed to south of Addis.O/N ADDIS (HOTEL).

DAY 11: ADDIS ABABA – AWASSA

In the morning drive to Awassa. On the way, visit the rock-hewn church of Adadi Maryam and the ancient stellae field of Tiya. O/N AWASSA (HOTEL).

DAY 12: AWASSA – ARBA MINCH                                                                                                                                  After breakfast drive to Arba Minch. On the way, you will stop in a Dorze village to visit the Dorze people and maybe the market if it is a market day. The Dorze people are known for their very tall huts made by Bamboo. O/N ARBA MINCH (LODGE).

DAY 13: ARBA MINCH – TURMI                                                                                                  

In the Morning drive to Turmi via Konso. The Konso people are known for their totems erected in honor of the dead and their intricate agricultural terracing techniques. Visit a local Konso village and the natural New York village, which gets its name from the tall sand formations that resemble skyscrapers. Afterward continue driving to Turmi. O/N TURMI (LODGE).                                                                                  

DAY 14: TURMI – OMORATE – TURMI

In the morning, drive to Omorate where you will cross the Omo River by local boat and visit the Dasennech tribes. Afterwards, return to Turmi and, if there is Jumping of the Bulls traditional Hamer wedding ceremony, it will be visited. In the night, see the traditional night dancing of the Hamer people, known as Evangadi. O/N TURMI (LODGE).

DAY 15: TURMI – JINKA

Leaving Turmi, you will stop to enjoy the market in Key Afar, you will have the opportunity to visit the Benna people at the local market in Key Afar, which takes place on Thursdays. Afterwards proceed driving to Jinka. O/N JINKA (HOTEL).

DAY 16: JINKA – MAGO NATIONAL PARK – MURSI – JINKA

In the morning, drive to Mago National Park and visit the Mursi tribes. The Mursi are known for their lower lip and earlobe plates. In the afternoon, after returning to Jinka, you can visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. O/N JINKA (HOTEL).

DAY 17: JINKA – ARBAMINCH

In the morning drive to Arba Minch. . In the afternoon, take a boat ride on Lake Chamo to visit the crocodile market and hippo pods. O/N ARBA MINCH (LODGE).

DAY 18: ARBA MINCH – ADDIS ABABA

In the morning drive to Addis Ababa and in the evening before departure, have a fare well dinner party at one of the best traditional restaurants where you will see the folkloric dances of the people of Ethiopia, and taste the variety of Ethiopian meals.

End of tour; then Departure.
